What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm the COO of FemCity; our customers are women in business who want to grow personally and professionally with other women, with positivity, and gratitude at our core.
Tell us about yourself
I found Femcity while I was intentionally networking in my snowbird community in SW Florida. I fell in love with the way women connected and truly wanted to help each other grow. With excitement, I wanted it in my own backyard in Toronto. I launched a chapter that grew to be quite successful and put FemCity on the map in Canada. I was later offered the role of Director, and last year became the COO. Seeing women collaborate, build friendships, build their businesses, and become supporters of one another keeps me fired up to continue this work each day.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Finding the balance between meaningful work and being a Mom that is a role model for my daughters is my greatest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Although I don't own the company, I see that one of the hardest things the Founder and I go through is wanting to do it all for our mission of serving women and also having boundaries around our time. It's easy to say yes, but not as easy to say no.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
My best tips are really the ones that are easy to do and easy not to do.
- Get organized in your life to support functioning your best to run your business.
- Know that things change quickly, and you will need to adjust your sails to keep up these days.
- Find the right people to work with you and treat them right. The right people can make or break a small business.
