Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in creative design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Félix Laveault-Allard, a Graphic Designer based in Gracefield, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a freelance graphic designer. I'm doing custom typography, brand identity, and merch design. I work mostly with locals SMB and influencers.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a small-town guy from Quebec. I started doing graphic design around age 14. I really like to bring projects to life. Making things real.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'm able to work with people that I look up to. It's a crazy road to be in business, but when I look back to the consistent work I've done over the years and the people I've collaborated with, I'm filled with pride.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It's lonely. It's important to have a really good social circle with both business owners that understand you and "normal" people that distract you and keep you mentally good.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. The first would be to set up a top-notch work organization. You always have to be on top of your game and deliver 120% of what's expected. Give yourself a chance to deliver with a good organizational system that works for you.
  2. The second would be to take a specific time to reflect. I keep a weekly business journal with all my good shots and all my bad shots. It helps me focus on important things and frees my brain.
  3. The third would be to develop a good entourage. Go to those networking events and talk to people you don't know. Reach out to inspiring businesses on social media. It's a long-run game, but it'll always bring good business eventually.
