Tell us about yourself

I am a Software Engineer with 10+ years of experience working on mobile and desktop software for clients globally. With the support of my partner, I decided to give back to the community for several years by working front lines for a nonprofit organization helping anyone who walked through those doors. After talking to thousands of people about the significant risk factors affecting their mental health and the barriers they experienced in finding support, I became a strong advocate for those living with a mental illness. Giving so much back working 16 hour days between working on Feeling Moodie and the many vulnerable people I was helping came at a cost. I had suffered severe burnout causing psychosis and suicidal thoughts. The burnout identified the importance of using Feeling Moodie and acquiring positive mental health. This experience gave me the empathy that someone with lived experience can provide in the application. If it wasn't for the high level of giving and the thousands of community members providing insights would not have found the best way to support someone wanting to improve or maintain positive wellbeing. At Feeling Moodie, we believe that everyone has the right to mental health treatment and are dedicated to becoming the global leader with our digital technology.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The significant impact our software has had on thousands of people over the last year. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing that someone used our product and improved their wellbeing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Various challenges had significant impacts on our journey. The biggest being no funding available to help us get things started. We have been self-funding for 98% of the entire process. Leading people to scale a business has been a struggle. Finding the right talent with a limited budget has been impactful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a plan.
  2. Know your strengths and weaknesses.
  3. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't spend time in the wrong areas of the business and identify what work you put in has the best return on investment.
