Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Fawzya Khosti, Owner of Fawzya Khosti, Executive Function Coach, LLC., located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We help individuals diagnosed with giftedness, 2e, dyslexia, dysgraphia, AD/HD, ODD, anxiety, high-functioning autism, memory problems, and minor traumatic brain injury (m TBI) improve their executive function skills. We customize our services to meet our client's individual needs.

We offer our services to individuals of all ages. We work with children, teenagers, and adults. We help our clients create better habits so that they can improve their performance in school, work, or home.

Executive Function Coaching helps improve working memory, focus, meta-cognition, processing speed, impulse control, task initiation, flexibility, time management, long-term and short-term planning, prioritization, organization, problem-solving, visual awareness, emotional awareness, as well as goal setting and follow through.

  • Hypnotherapy - This is a service offered to anyone wanting to work on reducing anxiety, improving memory and concentration, or any other topic of their choice.
  • Webinars - We offer customized Webinars for students, parents, teachers, and professionals working in the field of education.
  • MindPrint Assessment - The MindPrint Assessment objectively measures how a student learns best and provides strategies personalized to a student’s learning strengths and needs. Just like a fingerprint, each student has a unique “MindPrint'' that provides a clear insight into how a student learns most efficiently and what supports will help them succeed.

The Mindprint Assessment measures the cognitive skills most closely correlated to success in academics and on standardized tests. The online, self-administered MindPrint Assessment is not like school standardized tests. It is a series of nine puzzle-like activities, and unlike traditional school tests, it has no reading comprehension or math problems. It typically takes less than one hour to complete, but we recommend reserving at least 75 minutes of quiet, uninterrupted time, so your child has all the time they need to show their best work without being rushed. All your child needs is a desktop or laptop computer (no phone or tablet) and a quiet place with no interruptions.

I've worked as an executive function coach since 2016 and have helped clients of all ages take on challenges such as autism, dyslexia, asynchronous development, 2e, AD/HD, anxiety, undiagnosed memory issues, as well as minor traumatic brain injuries (mTBI) improve their executive function skills. I use hypnotherapy as a tool to help my clients improve their memory, focus, concentration, follow through, and processing speed, decrease anxiety, and reduce symptoms of PTSD and trauma. I work holistically with families and include parents, therapists, psychologists, teachers, and any other needed professionals to make sure my clients get the services they need.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, photography, and spending time at the beach.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have a couple of accomplishments that I am very proud of. One of my biggest accomplishments is watching my clients succeed. I see my client's success as my success. Because of this mindset, most of the clients come directly as referrals from former clients. The other accomplishment I am proud of is my ability to grow my business without taking out loans. My business has no debt.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The toughest part about being a small business owner is keeping a steady stream of clients. It is important to plan ahead financially and keep a financial reserve for when your income fluctuates.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research and create a solid business plan.
  2. Delegate tasks YOU don't have to do yourself so that you can focus on what you do well.
  3. Reevaluate regularly (at least every three months) and adjust as needed.
