Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emma Golley, Founder of Fashion and the Free, located in Costa Mesa, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a fashion blog and podcast called Fashion and the Free. My target audience is fashion industry professionals, students, entrepreneurs, and anyone who has a general interest in what goes on behind the scenes in fashion.

Tell us about yourself

In 2019 I started to recognize how much need for transparency there was in the fashion industry. As someone that has been in the industry for over 12 years, I wanted to create a platform for fashion industry professionals and students to share their stories and provide educational & inspirational content, as well as promote sustainable fashion. I am always receiving such encouraging feedback, which motivates me to keep going.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing my idea come to life and receiving a positive response from the fashion community. Having the podcast take off in the way it has also been a great feeling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Staying on top of everything as a solo entrepreneur.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You have to really love and feel passionate about your business for it to last- don't go into it thinking it's a 'get rich quick situation.
  2. Be patient for your business to take several years to fully take off.
  3. Don't be afraid to connect with others for guidance and advice.
