Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Chris Clark, Owner of Fair Dinkum Coffee Co., located in Wimberley, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a nonprofit coffee roasting company! Our customers are everyone from individuals all the way to corporate companies and everything in between.

Tell us about yourself

I have been roasting coffee for four years now. It all started with a YouTube video of how coffee is grown, and it grabbed my interest so heavily that I became obsessed! Over the past four years, we have been able to donate over $15,000 to children's organizations! What motivates me every day is my wife and kids, both have been my solid support system. My passion for roasting great coffee and helping people in the process is something that grows stronger every day!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to build a company where I'm able to work for myself and help the youth of my community!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of my biggest hurdles when I went into business, is comparing myself to other companies. I learned quickly that everyone grows at their own pace. Over the past four years, I have put in the work day in and day out to make Fair Dinkum Coffee Co successful as it is! Even through the hardest part, the start-up, my wife has played one of the biggest roles, my biggest supporter.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research, and become the most knowledgeable person in your field.
  2. Learn to talk to people. This impacts one of the most important roles: SALES and CUSTOMER SERVICE.
  3. Don't be scared of messing something up. It will be a learning experience that you can look back on!
