Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Brad Sinko, Owner of Face Rock Creamery, located in Bandon, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is about Artisan handmade cheese production. We use only the freshest and most local ingredients to make our cheese in Bandon, located on the beautiful South Coast of Oregon.

Tell us about yourself

I have a biology degree from Oregon State University. I was hired by Bandon Cheese, whose owner was my father, and after a number of years in every department, I took over management of the company. I moved on to consulting in Guatemala, then moved on to Seattle to start Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, where I invented Flagship cheddar and the beginning of the sweet cheddar cheese. After starting a new plant in New York City for Beecher’s was lured back to Bandon, Oregon, where my parents still live in retirement, to start Face Rock Creamery. I have won many awards, including best cheddar and Best of Show from the American Cheese Society and other competitions. I have developed every cheese at FRC and am in the middle of developing more. I am very proud of my career up to this point and look forward to what is to come.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Start up’s of successful businesses and their huge growth.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Managing people, processes, and food safety. It is a monumental responsibility and one that can keep me awake at night.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Never think of how it can’t get done, only how it can. Never talk down to anyone. Include as many people on the team on all projects. Collaboration!
