Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joe Parenteau, co-founder and CEO of Fable Home, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Fable, we create timeless everyday pieces that inspire and elevate the experience of dining at home. Motivated by a common vision to create products that are as enjoyable as they are ethical, we started with ceramics that are sustainably crafted in Portugal and have since expanded to flatware, glassware, textiles, and more. Starting with tableware, our mission is to bring ethical, sustainable home décor into every area of the home.

Tell us about yourself

Together with Max Tims and Tina Luu, I founded Fable as a solution to a personal problem. When wanting to upgrade to more premium home decor and tableware, I couldn’t find anything out there that was ethically and sustainably produced and accessibly priced that also offered a simplified shopping experience. We saw an opportunity and set out to fill the gap.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think it has to be our team. I am blown away by their work every day and am always excited to share the new things they create.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Sometimes there are challenges and sometimes really big challenges. Those days are not the most fun, but those are also some of the fondest memories when you look back.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Start. Most people have great ideas, but I believe very few have the ability to execute and follow through every day.
