What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are developing a Telehealth system with a myopic view of taking the cost out of healthcare. One-third of the global population does not have access to primary care due to accessibility and affordability. We have shifted the paradigm and taken quality, affordable healthcare to people who need it the most. With our digital clinic solution, we are taking healthcare to people, so the patients don't have to travel far to access healthcare. We have installed over 100 digital clinics in Pakistan and planning to expand to 1000 by the end of 2023.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a technologist. I was senior director of R&D at hp. I worked there for 20 years. Then I joined Amazon Robotics, where I was responsible for warehouse automation. 2018, I decided to retire. But when I learned 150 million people in Pakistan don't have access to healthcare and 100 million people go through major financial stress due to medical bills, I decided to come out of retirement to tackle this problem. Now I have a very myopic view of taking the cost out of healthcare and making it affordable for everyone.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I started two years ago with a vision; last year, we had 20 digital clinics. Today we have 150 digital clinics, and on our way to 1000 digital clinics by the end of 2023. We have active conversations in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Oman, and the USA to initiate digital clinics. Our vision is to offer Universal Health care to 220 million people in Pakistan by 2030.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Responsibility. A sense of responsibility doesn't get you disconnected. I'm sitting in a hospital with my mom and working.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
You must have a reason to start your startup. Your drive can't be money or fame. The cause has to be bigger than yourself. That makes the trip worth a while.
