Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shane Miller, owner of CrossFit 819, located in Hull, Quebec Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our goal is to be the best hour of each person's day! Our customers are everyone. Their challenges are all challenges. We meet them with smiles and give them a good sweat.

Tell us about yourself

I like to see people happy. The human need for physical exercise is undeniable, and satisfying that need is worth every effort.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating the community that is CrossFit 819.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Dealing with the QC government.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure it's a business that you understand well. Either you've been a customer already, or you really understand the customer's needs.
  2. Don't bite off more than you can chew. Start small. "If you build it, they will come", doesn't always work out.
  3. Trust your gut.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Always listen to others as though they know something you don't. This serves me well, and it will serve anyone who's starting a business too.
