Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Erika Jones, Co-Owner of Express Tax Software Solutions, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business partner, Jason Cheek, and I own Express Tax Software Solutions. We help turn tax preparers into tax experts by offering online, IRS-approved CE courses and an intensive mentorship program. Our customers are tax preparers who are looking to improve their skills, stay up-to-date with the latest tax laws and regulations, and scale their tax business to six figures and beyond.

Tell us about yourself

I have always been passionate about helping others, and I saw a need in the tax preparation industry for comprehensive training programs that would help tax preparers achieve success in their businesses. This is what inspired me to start Express Tax Software Solutions. What motivates me each day is seeing the positive impact our mentorship program has on our clients' businesses. Knowing that we are helping tax preparers achieve their goals and providing value to them is what drives me to keep working on our business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as business owners has been helping our clients achieve their financial goals. We have helped many tax preparers scale their businesses to six figures and beyond, which has not only improved their own financial situation but has also helped them provide better services to their clients. Knowing that we have made a positive impact on our clients' businesses and lives is our biggest accomplishment as business owners.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is managing and balancing all of the different aspects of the business, such as finances, marketing, customer service, and product development. It can be challenging to stay on top of everything and make sure that everything is running smoothly. However, this challenge can also be a motivating factor to improve our skills and become better business owners.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on providing value to your customers. Make sure that your product or service is meeting a need or solving a problem for your customers. Focus on building long-term relationships with your customers by providing excellent customer service and listening to their feedback.
  2. Be adaptable and willing to learn. The business world is constantly changing, and it's important to be able to adapt to new technologies, market trends, and customer demands. Make a commitment to lifelong learning and seek out opportunities to improve your skills and knowledge.
  3. Build a strong team and network. No business can succeed without a strong team of employees, partners, and supporters. Make sure you surround yourself with people who share your vision and can help you achieve your goals. Also, focus on building a strong network of mentors, advisors, and peers who can offer guidance and support as you navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.
