Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in children's development, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rebecca Pisarski, the co-founder of Madison Tutoring, LLC, based in Madison, Connecticut, USA.
Tell us all about your business...
We work one-on-one with students to build their skills and confidence and help them succeed both in and out of school. We meet with students both in person in our office in Madison, CT and online on our virtual whiteboard system.
What's your background and motivation to get into the solopreneur life?
I love working with kids and teaching math, but being a full-time in-school teacher was making my work-life balance very difficult. Working for myself, I can still help kids while serving as a supportive, positive role model in their lives.
As a business owner, what does success ultimately mean to you?
Turning a profit after only a few months! I'm also really proud of the accomplishments I've seen kids make; I've seen them go from literally shaking when I bring up fractions to confidently working their way through fraction problems without my help.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Being responsible for all of the little duties (taking out the trash, cleaning the bathroom) in addition to all of the big-picture tasks.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run or grow a business today?
Make sure it's something you're passionate about. Ask for advice when you don't know how to do something. Leap of faith and do it!
If there was one thing you could do repeatedly to help grow your business, what would it be?
Ask for referrals at the beginning. We haven't advertised in years and are fully booked off of referrals and word of mouth alone.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
I only check my work phone once a day on weekends, so that I feel like I'm truly getting a weekend away from work.
Where can people find you online?
If you like what you've read here and have your own solopreneur story that you'd like to share then email email@example.com, we'd love to feature your journey on these pages.
