Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jeanette Queen, Co-Founder of Evolvewell Integrative Medical Clinic, located in Calgary, AB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is an Integrative Medical Clinic called EvolveWell. We are in the business of helping patients to achieve not only good health but optimal health. We provide hormone replacement therapy for both men and women, metabolic health assessments and treatments, acupuncture and treatments for urinary leakage, and intimate health. We also have a counselor for mental health issues. We also recently introduced medical aesthetics and medical-grade skin care into our practice.

Tell us about yourself

I have been working in the Integrative Health area for approximately 20 years. I love being able to investigate and find the root cause of people’s problems and correct those problems from the inside out. For example, people have no idea how much GI health and hormones can impact mental health. My motivation comes from being able to help people to improve their health and their quality of life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is my practice. I have wonderful patients who I enjoy seeing and working with every day. It is truly a privilege to do what I do every day. On the business side of things, I completely owe others who have helped me along the way. I could not have continued with the clinic if it was not for them.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is- getting started. It is a big step in starting a business. When you start out, be prepared to be the cleaner, repair person, manager, and worker all at the same time.

Secondly is the staffing and human resources. It is the most important part of a business to have the right people being in the right positions, and this is very difficult. COVID also made things much harder.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Plan what you want to do and how you are going to do it but do not overthink it, or you will become paralyzed, and things seldom go the way you think they are going to anyway!
  2. Knowing this will be hard, and there will be many times that you want to give up-perseverance is key. Don’t give up!
  3. Most importantly, have the right people around you for support. You cannot do everything on your own.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I truly feel blessed to be able to have the business that I have and to be able to see it grow into what it is today. It is a big responsibility to be in health care, but it is a great joy to see people feel and look better and hopefully have a much better life. To be able to be part of that is a great joy.
