Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Patrick Lerouge, Founder of Evolve Restorative Therapy, located in Garwood, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I have a breakthrough consulting and guidance service, helping parent professionals optimize their minds and bodies doubling the amount of focus, concentration, and energy. Quieting the negative internal chatter while increasing the calm states during challenging times. Keeping you present with family and laser-focused at work.

Tell us about yourself

I am a product of my program, parent to 3, husband for 20 years, and pitbull lover. I am a super geek when it comes to optimizing the body, and I am willing to learn and implement myself first. What keeps me thriving to be my best self is when I learn I am creating the behaviors and the thinking of my children, not from my words but from my actions and the environment I am making. This lesson scared me straight. Now I show up daily to better myself, so I am modeling the behavior I want them to show and become. Learning about them gives me insight into how to help my clients better.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As corny and wild as it sounds, being in business for over 20 years without needing a traditional job and supporting a growing family. Going through the ups and the downs of business. Learning how to be a business rather than a hobby, creating a platform to build on solving bigger problems for people. Going through the experiences of making big mistakes and being responsible for getting yourself out of them. All so you can help the next person get to their dream faster.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Learning that there is no such thing as balance, the balance myth pins one against the other regarding work and family. It's a harmony you have to create within the unit. The faster you let go of this concept, the faster you will begin to build a business around you that can grow as your family does. Having a structure to be present in both places and knowing that it won't stay that way is the key to staying focused and full of energy.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Follow your heart before you follow a method. Make up your mind about what you want and allow the guide, coach, or mentor to help you get there faster. You will waste time and energy if you do it the other way around.
  2. The healthier you are, the faster you can go. Make sure you stay on your grind and always fight the urge to do work over self-care.
  3. Don't work for the money. Do the work that fills your heart. Money will flow to you easier and more abundantly once you sync up what you love with a problem of high value to a person. Not everything is for everyone.
