Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rafe Kelley, Founder of Evolve Move Play, located in Bellingham, WA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We teach an ecology of practices of movement, nature connection, community, and mindfulness practices. Our customers are people who are interested in self-transformation through a greater connection to themselves and the natural world.

Tell us about yourself

I started training in martial arts when I was six years old, and it helped me overcome intense learning disabilities and violent tendencies. In my early twenties, I discovered parkour and found that it was even more powerful for me in overcoming my learning disabilities. I have been fascinated in every sense with the power of movement to transfer to life in a broader sense and how we can facilitate the power of those transformations better by marrying movement to related practices.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of my biggest accomplishments as a business owner is putting on retreats that have developed a worldwide reputation.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing the passion and drive for creation with maintaining a life outside of the business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know what you are passionate about.
  2. Knowing passion is not enough. What is the business model.
  3. You won't be able to do it alone. What is your strategy for bringing in the right people to work with you.
