Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Trevor Hayward, Founder of Evil Genius Beer Company, located in Philadelphia, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We make beer! Our customers are people who want a full-flavored beer with a dash of nostalgia thrown in!

Tell us about yourself

I'm originally from Dublin, Ireland. I moved to the US to go to grad school at Villanova University, which is where I met my business partner, Luke Bowen. We became fast friends, realized we both had a passion for beer, and decided to turn it into a career. I love my job. I get to work with a great crew of co-workers, working on expanding our business and getting Evil Genius into the hands of new and existing customers. Getting that done is what motivates me each day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being an immigrant, it's been a great accomplishment to have been able to create an entire business, jobs, and customers.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You're never off. You'll never work as hard as you do for yourself. That said, it comes with many rewards, and I wouldn't give it up for the world.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believing and Passion in yourself and your product are key.
  2. You'll never work as hard as you do for yourself; use that to your advantage.
  3. Where possible, work smart, not hard. You don't have to do everything yourself or be good at everything.
