Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey, but not sure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Denis Vidmar, co-founder, and CEO of THEMUSHHUB CO., from Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
Tell us all about your business...
We are an everything Mushroom & Truffle company specializing in exotic, wild, and medicinal mushrooms. We believe mushrooms should be added to all meals to help our health!
What's your background and motivation to grow as an entrepreneur?
I am a second-generation mushroom farmer, and I am fascinated by Fungi. I believe that Fungi are the solution to all of our planet's health problems; from ours to the world, Fungi can help us heal and regenerate. It is my mission to leave the planet healthier than I have found it.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is yet to come. My stepping ladder has had multiple victories, both good and bad. My lessons learned are more valuable because the quality of your work directly correlates with your commitment. The Ph.D. comes from falling, but the only thing that matters is getting back up.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur?
Too many things to count. The key is not to waste time worrying but to create a plan to remove one by one from your to-do list. Everything is possible when we remember to breathe.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- People buy how you feel, so don't be shy.
- Be proud, accountable, and always stand by your contract between you and the client.
- Communication will get you out of more trouble than you think. Most people will work with you; they just have to know the bind you are in.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
To open a business is a simple decision, but behind that decision is a lot of prep, as starting a business means giving birth to a newborn. It will cry and need to be fed, and if you are not up for the challenge of finding ways to create 30h in a day, then don't waste your time. If you are hungry, you will succeed. I have heard over 100 no's, but the few that said yes will help me change the world for the better.
