Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelly Ockeloen, owner of Every-body.fit, located in West Vancouver, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Every-body.fit is all about empowering women to be mentally and physically fit and create a life full of massive love. The journey involves growing happiness and confidence through healthy habits in self-love, self-care, mindset, and movement. This will naturally infuse one's life with massive love :)
Tell us about yourself
I'm Kelly, a 53-year-old momma of 3. I was raised in an active family, so being active is my lifestyle. I got divorced in my mid-40s and then sold my share of a much-loved women's kickboxing business. I had to create a new path for myself, and I had no clue what that looked like. I knew I wanted a life full of massive love. That was my starting point. I dove into all things personal development and then hired a life coach for the first time. That's when I got some clarity on where I wanted to go.
I wanted to build a community of women that would be all about growth, connection, support, curiosity, energy, inspiration, resilience, courage, motivation, creativity, play, empowerment, and love. In the last ten years, I've felt some low lows of life's rollercoaster and some high highs. I've learned how to navigate through both and create balance. I know it's possible to see through the eyes of love, even when your world feels like it's crumbling and you can't see any light, and that's what motivates me to do what I do - help women find their light, see their worth, believe in themselves again, and create a beautiful life full of massive love. I believe it all begins with movement. That gives you a natural push to take action toward positive change, especially when life feels like it's kicking you in the butt.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Not quitting. It's easy to feel very alone as a business owner, and the path is never straight. Resilience, courage, determination, and a positive attitude will serve you well!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Doing ALL the things when it's just you! Wearing all the hats when all the hats aren't your strengths. Until you grow to a certain point, you are doing everything yourself - working with clients, marketing, advertising, accounting, etc...
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
What's the spark that's in your heart? Get curious about it, study/learn from others who've already gone down that path, start before you think you're ready, and be relentless in believing in yourself. Make sure you've got a good 'team' or support system around you - a mastermind group or group of friends with whom you can talk about everything entrepreneur. Then go for it!
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
You get one life. What matters most to you? Find a way to do what you love, share it, and make a positive impact on your world.
