What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an event floral production studio. Our mission is to create happiness and cultivate kindness at every opportunity. We use the art of floral design to make this possible.

Tell us about yourself

I fell in love with floral design in high school when I got my very first job and a tiny flower stand. I really lit up when I was creating bouquets and knew it was something I wanted in my life forever. I love how flowers have a language. There's always meaning behind them. People use flowers to say, "I love you, I do, I'm sorry, Welcome, Farewell..." When my first husband passed away, I saw a sea of red roses at his funeral, knowing they were all an expression of love for both of us and our children. That made such an impression on me; it stayed with me. This is why every arrangement we create we do with intention and care.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I'd have to say my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is being fully self-expressed and freedom to create a life that I love! It has given me access to combine my passion for my craft with my passion for humanity and support our family in the process.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balance! Or lack thereof, it can be challenging to find balance when you own a business. So many moving parts, so many emotions, responsibilities, not going to lie. There are days when I want just to run away from it all. But those days are few, and they always present an opportunity to grow and learn and be bigger than I knew I could be!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Be humble, be grateful, and be unstoppable! Seek out every opportunity to learn from those who have something to teach. Be grateful for EVERYTHING: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Every experience along the way are accomplishments or opportunities. Gratitude (and acceptance) will carry you, I promise! And no matter what, never give up!! You will most certainly find a need to adapt and evolve along the way, especially when faced with social and economic changes, so adjust your swing, but NEVER GIVE UP!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I started my business right around 40, with three kids, working a full-time corporate job. It felt crazy and, at times, like it was a lost cause. But my husband and my family were my champions! Know who your people are and accept the support they offer. Let them know what you are up to and get them as excited about what you are creating. Community is everything!

Where can people find you and your business?

The fleur.ish design studio is currently in San Juan Capistrano, serving all of Orange. We are expanding to San Diego County in 2022!
