Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Erik Solbakken, Owner of Accountant Success Formula, located in North Saanich, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Executive-level coaching program for professional accountants (CPA).

Tell us about yourself

I worked as a CPA for over 26 years and realized the business model was oppressive to the CPAs and their business clients. What motivates me is changing the CPA firm's business model to give the CPAs their freedom.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating a brand new business from my own experience and imagination.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Experiencing failure... which happens whenever you're creating a new business offering.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. It's not all rainbows and unicorns—being a business owner is hard work (but worth it).
  2. Always invest in your skills. Even if the investment in your new business venture fails, you'll always have the unique experience and skills you collected on your journey.
  3. Only start a business that you're passionate about. There will be peaks and valleys during your journey, so having a definite purpose will keep you above water when you experience disappointment.
