Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Carolina Marrelli, Founder of EquiBalance Health, located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Holistic Health and Lifestyle Coach that helps busy working women get the tools they need to live a healthy and vibrant life by offering highly-engaging workshops/classes, DIY programs, and 1-1 coaching.

Tell us about yourself

I got into this work after surviving a health crisis that almost killed me just days after my second son was born. My life came to a halt. My former career (in full-time music ministry and toured a bit with my band then) was put on a permanent pause. All my energy went into getting healthy again. I fell in love with everything I was learning, so I went back to school (two of them simultaneously) to become a Holistic Health and Lifestyle Coach and a Plant-Based Medicine Instructor.

What motivates me each day to do what I do is this: God put us all here with a destiny and a purpose. When we don't feel our best, we don't show up in life the way we would otherwise. Which means we aren't out there fulfilling that life calling the way we would be otherwise. Suppose I can help a woman to start feeling her best. In that case, she can go out and set the world ablaze -- whether on the homefront as a Mom raising future leaders or a woman in the corporate world going after her career dreams.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My two most significant accomplishments as a business owner thus far are watching life after life transform for the better -- right before my eyes. The other has been speaking to hundreds of women on some pretty excellent stages -- and the conversations after. The "ah ha" moments free them from the beliefs that taking care of themselves is selfish -- or other beliefs that hold them back from going after their dreams because of their health.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart. You don't know what you don't know when you are just getting started --- and even years down the line --- and it can sometimes be frustrating.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your WHY. And don't let your WHY be about money. Money is essential -- absolutely. But picture yourself AFTER you've achieved your financial goals. Would you still be doing what you are doing, or would it be something else?
  2. Get around people who are doing what you want and doing it VERY WELL. Build relationships with them and learn from them. And ALWAYS give back to them as well. Just because they may be farther along in the game doesn't mean you don't have something of value to offer them in return.
  3. Do inner work. Watch your self-talk and your mindset. The world will reflect what you think about and believe about yourself.
