Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tabitha Scott, Founder of Epic Pivot’s, Nashville, TN office.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Epic Pivot is a small business that provides purposeful transformations for Fortune 500s, mid-sized companies, institutions, and nonprofits. An epic pivot happens when an organization aligns its purpose, identity, and strategy to its authentic values—and sets a durable foundation for growth in the process.

With a framework, a methodology, and hands-on facilitation and planning, we guide organizations through this important, net-positive change. We also offer a range of premiere Innovations, Insights, Strategy, Customer Experience, and Nonprofit Services.

Tell us about yourself

I first began working with Epic Pivot in June of 2021 when I learned of their mission and the incredible book of business. I have spent 20+ years leading global corporate innovation and sustainability, yet I found myself wanting to help people achieve more than profits. The team we have assembled is driven by an authentic passion for human design and purpose--we wake up each day with curiosity and enjoy the variety of organizations we are able to support.

I love helping global leaders use the power of energy to recharge their people, invigorate teams and increase productivity, so they can adapt to change quickly and be more profitable.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is to witness the change in direction that occurs when companies seek deeper empathy from their customers, leaders, and workers. I also enjoy working with partners and colleagues from whom I am constantly learning. It's an august team with very bright minds and real approachability. That's fun!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

We live in a world of perpetual change, and connectivity is the first step to business success. Staying tuned in to workers, colleagues, and even yourself can be a challenge. From both an energetic and personal perspective, if you're not "plugged in," you cannot shine!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find something you love, then figure out how to get paid for it.
  2. Stay curious! Things are changing fast, so if something sounds interesting or intriguing, at least check it out.
  3. We're naturally hard-wired with a sense of purpose, so follow your intuition. Billionaires like Oprah, Steve Jobs, and Elon Musk attribute their success to listening to their own intuition.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We understand that human “resources” are already within an organization. The problem is that they are not being connected, directed, and empowered in a way that maximizes their engagement. It's more important than ever for leaders to use the principles of human dynamics to change the way they do business.
