Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kate Erickson, Creator, Engager & Implementer of Entrepreneurs On Fire, located in Humacao, PR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Entrepreneurs on Fire is an award-winning podcast hosted by John Lee Dumas, where he interviews Entrepreneurs who are truly ON FIRE 7 days a week. Over the past 10 years, JLD has interviewed over 3500 Entrepreneurs to the tune of over 100 million total listens. Entrepreneurs on Fire generates over 3 million listens a month and 7-figures of annual revenue. Our customers are wantrepreneurs and entrepreneurs looking to create financial and lifestyle freedom through doing work they love.

Tell us about yourself

I joined John on Entrepreneurs On Fire in 2013, about 6 months after he launched the podcast. He had gained momentum, listenership was growing, and he had people reaching out to him and requesting coaching. When I joined the team, I used my experience with content creation and creating systems to help build a foundation and infrastructure that would help sustain rapid growth and the introduction of products and services into the business.

We launched our first product, a mastermind community called Fire Nation Elite, in July 2013, followed by our flagship premium membership community, Podcasters' Paradise, in Oct 2013. Seeing others create financial and lifestyle freedom using the training, support, and inspiration we provide via the podcast and our free and paid courses is incredible. It motivates me to continue doing what I do - the ripple effect is so powerful!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are just celebrating 10 years in business! When I joined the team in 2013, I really couldn't see much past that year. We've generated over 7-figures of revenue every year for 10 years straight, have impacted millions of listeners through our podcast, and there's no end in sight for us.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think staying focused is. As a business owner, it's easy to take on too much - there are so many opportunities, asks, and avenues you can go down... but not all of them are the right ones. Sometimes you have to say no to things that sound great but that you know won't help you get to where you want to go with your goals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have absolute clarity on your WHY - why do you want to start a business?
  2. NICHE. When you try and talk to everyone, you'll end up talking to no one.
  3. Know exactly who you're creating your business for - your avatar - your perfect listener, reader, consumer, and customer.
