Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rhonda Tremaine and Sandrine Baptiste, Owners of ENoetic Press, located in Hazlet, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We own ENoetic Press, a publisher of our wellness books, but the business is broader than that. Our website Everything Noetic features our work in total, including links to our social media accounts and podcast. We blog, have written and published several books, own an Etsy shop, host wellness events, and offer astrology and energy readings.

Our customers started out mostly as women because our first book was on weight loss aimed at women. However, we found that men were also interested in the material, and now, the customer base has changed. Generally, our customers are people who are seeking information on self-development, wellness, and spirituality.

Tell us about yourself

When I, Sandrine Baptiste was a little girl, I realized I had an inner knowing. I grew up and continued to use that inner knowing, which brought me from my home in Toulouse, France, to the United States. I soon realized I wanted to help people to be their best selves through the one on one coaching experience, and this later evolved into the energy reading sessions she offers today. But I also knew that I had a book in me and wanted to reach more people.

I, Rhonda Tremaine, had a long career as a freelance writer and currently work as a contracts professional in the insurance industry. Since childhood, I knew I wanted to write a novel someday. I have always been interested in astrology and have been doing professional readings since I was a teenager. We met in 2010, when we collaborated on our first book, and have been writing, blogging, podcasting, and marketing the business since 2011. We are both motivated by the same thing—to do what comes naturally to us: help people to be their best selves.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Writing three books is our biggest accomplishment. Many people do not realize how much time it takes from concept to completion because not only did we write the books, we started a publishing company and have to do all the work a publisher would do, from creating the book files to doing the marketing for the book launch. However, each book took months of writing, editing, and proofreading. You don't just sit down and write a book. It has to be a labor of love. So once each one was finished, it felt like a major accomplishment each time!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The "build it, and they will come" concept is largely fictitious. You have to find your customers. They don't just appear, so marketing is very important. The hardest thing about being a business owner is the challenge of marketing ethically and organically.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in your idea. Your belief will create the vision that will lead you to develop actionable steps.
  2. Be open to possibilities. Be willing to change, and try Everything once. You never know what will work.
  3. Keep going. Never give up! And have fun!
