What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a yoga and wellness business. My yoga students and teachers are people of all ages and stages of life. We come together to practice yoga and share our energy with each other.
Tell us about yourself
I left a high-powered corporate job to take over a yoga studio from a studio owner who wanted to exit the business. It was quite a change in pace (no more 24/7 corporate days and nights!), and it was a wonderful transition to a more peaceful personal existence.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating a community of yogis (teachers and practitioners) has been so very rewarding. I have gotten to know each of my students, and we share more than just our yoga practices with each other. It's a warm, welcoming, and supportive community of yogis that enhance our practice.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Bills, bills, bills! It's a struggle to break even--COVID changed the landscape for small business owners like me. I was just at the 'break even' point when COVID reared its ugly head. It's taken me years to recover the momentum I lost.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Engage knowledgeable people to help you--it takes a village to build a yoga business!
- Never stop being grateful (and expressing your gratefulness) to those who support you. I don't take my students and teachers' commitment to my studio for granted!
- Don't sweat the small stuff. The goal is to figure out what needs your attention and what can 'slide' past you. Not everything is a crisis!
