Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Maura Farragher, Founder of Enigma Wellness, based in Galway, Ireland.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Transformational Complementary Therapist RGN, RM, Lic.Ac., Dip AC, (Cert) Nanjing, and the founder of Enigma Wellness, a holistic healing clinic based in Galway, Ireland, and available digitally across Europe and the USA.

My customers are those who are on a journey to spiritual awakening and personal wellness and seeking peace of mind and being centered and balanced in themselves through healing and personal development. With my extensive background in energy healing, life coaching, and spiritual guidance, I leverage modalities such as acupuncture, herbalism, energy healing, life coaching, and mentorship to achieve this.

It takes a nuanced, delicate approach to support someone’s healing journey. In this work, I hold a sacred role as a space holder as my clients explore stress, anxiety, grief, trauma, and cultural conditioning on their path to health and well-being.

Tell us about yourself

I worked as a nurse and midwife for 15 years, and as time went on, my work became less self-satisfying and more about completing tasks at rapid speed. My western training was invaluable, but I knew it was only one piece of the puzzle. I had already completed a diploma in reflexology, which gave me an insight into the energy body and field. I was passionate about this work connection between the physical and energy body and wanted to learn more. I continued my training in Eastern medicine as an acupuncturist and herbalist, and my learning has never stopped or ever will. What motivates me is seeing my clients’ transformation, becoming more balanced and alive in themselves in every way, and knowing that my support, knowledge, and healing were the key to unlocking their own health and personal journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is having a dream and vision for my business and seeing it all come to fruition.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is multitasking. Owners have to deal with all parts of running a business, from communication, administrative work, banking, social media, and marketing, and cannot just focus solely on the client.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus: Know your market, believe in yourself, focus and commit yourself fully to the business, be patient, and identify a good mentor is key to support and success.
  2. Finances: Have a good relationship with your bank and access to your finances.
  3. Relationships: Maintain a friendly relationship with your clients and repay loyalty to staff and clients. Always act in a professional manner and, most importantly, be authentic. Don’t underestimate relationships in a highly digital environment, and lastly, don’t take your family for granted, their support and love are crucial.
