Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alison Galvan, owner and founder of EnergyX Fitness, located in San Antonio, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At EnergyX Fitness, we offer high-intensity, low-impact classes designed to motivate and inspire you to live a healthier, happier lifestyle. Our members come from all walks of life. They come to try something new, and they stay because it feels like home.

Tell us about yourself

I've been in the fitness industry my whole career. After working in Campus Recreation for six years, I knew I had more to give to my community. EnergyX Fitness was created out of a need for something new, different, and innovative that would help support a healthier San Antonio. The amazing clients we see each day keep me motivated. So many of them have inspiring stories of how joining the EnergyX community (or XCrew as we affectionately call it) has changed their lives for the better. Fitness can seem so insignificant, but it means so much more to so many.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making it through the pandemic! I obviously wouldn't have said that a few years ago, but after seeing so many businesses, especially fitness businesses, permanently close due to the pandemic, I understand it was a huge accomplishment to keep operations going during and after.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

You are your own boss. There is no one to tell you how to do things or what to do. And some days you just need to be told what to do! This can also be one of the best things about owning a business. There are always ups and downs, and those fall directly on me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you have support from your family and friends. Not just cheerleaders (those are good too), but actual helpers. You'll need them!
  2. Don't expect to know everything right away. Learn what you can and be ok asking for help.
  3. Have a plan and be prepared to deviate. Nothing ever goes to plan, so adapting is key!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Owning a business is the best thing I've ever done! There are ups, downs, and a fair amount of running circles, but it's worth it if you truly have a vision and a passion for what you do.
