Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health & fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kristin Rowell, Founder of Energetically Efficient, located in Minneapolis, MN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a Functional Nutritional Therapy & coaching business. My clients are executives, professionals, lawyers, doctors, real estate agents, mortgage brokers, entrepreneurs, moms, and dads looking to optimize their health, energy, and wellness. Essentially, I help high-profile humans look and feel better to perform at their best.

Tell us about yourself

I began studying nutrition in the spring of 2014 to heal myself after I fell and broke my right leg in 10 places. Through my journey of maximizing my health and fitness, I discovered that how we choose to nourish our bodies dictates how we feel, how much energy we have, what our moods are like each day, and how we think about ourselves when we look in the mirror.

Everything gets better when we feel better, so I am motivated daily to help humans feel better so they can show up better in all aspects of their lives.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I started this business from scratch, on my own, and built a successful business without relying on outside funding from any source.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think this is probably unique for each person. Still, it has been letting go of control and allowing my team to take off of my plate what I do not need to be doing (and, in many instances, what they are better at than me anyway). I’ve become much better about this in the last year, and I am so grateful that I have a team I can rely on to assist me in serving our clients!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Figure out what you love to do and how to get paid for it.
  2. Hire a business coach. I’ve had a business coach since the day I started my business, which has made a massive difference in my ability to succeed quickly.
  3. Prioritize exercise first thing in the morning. It is the best way to start each day because it will clear your mind and allow you to focus more throughout your day. After all, you make better food choices, putting you in a better mood. It’s a game changer, and you have to prioritize yourself, or you can get consumed with work.
