Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lizzy Zima, Founder of EMPOWER Body Mind Soul, located in Asheville, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Empower Body Mind Soul: Transformational Fitness & Embodiment for Women. I serve women who want to thrive through the messy initiations of life & embody their best selves.

Tell us about yourself

Ever since I was a little girl, this has been my passion. I wanted all the workout equipment on tv, I had a Jane Fonda mat and a microphone that connected to the am radio. To say this is my dream job would be an understatement. It's my sacred purpose to support women in healing past traumas, owning our worth, and embodying our true power. I'm honored to share mindset & embodiment tools (and lots of empathy) to support women in building inner and outer resilience, so we can thrive amidst the immense external stressors that we are facing at this time. I became a yoga/group fitness instructor & personal trainer over a decade ago but just got serious about moving my business online in a scalable way since gyms were closed down during the pandemic. Sovereignty is one of my biggest values, and I want to have my own business, so I'm not at the whim of state regulations for my livelihood.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is simply choosing it 100%. That choice took a lot of courage.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Courage is a prerequisite for entrepreneurs. You have to trust yourself and go all in. The uncertainty can be terrifying. I'm grateful I have the tools to manage the stress and the faith in myself and God to keep going each day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I've taken a lot of paths at this point in my life. What I have learned is that unless we are following our hearts, we won't end up 100% fulfilled. You can't fake happiness. So my biggest advice is to make choices based on your truth and to trust the path that unfolds before you. And if you haven't developed a daily meditation/stress relief practice yet... that is essential to being able to surf the waves & thrive through the adventure.
