Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emma Cooke, Founder of Weights & Wine Personal Training, located in Lytham St Annes, United Kingdom.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a personal trainer and online coach training women all over the world. I help women get fit, teaching them how to make fitness work seamlessly with their busy lives. I believe that fitness is something we can all enjoy no matter our age or experience, and I love helping women feel confident to lift weights. I work with women throughout their life cycle and am qualified to train during pregnancy, perimenopause, and menopause.

Tell us about yourself

I got into the fitness industry quite late in life. After 10 years as an Operations Manager, I decided to re-qualify as a personal trainer and take my career in a completely different direction. I was fed up with trying fad diets and workouts I hated and never getting the results I wanted. I also never found anyone in the fitness industry that I felt was catering to me. Every day I get to work with the most amazing women and support them every step of the way. I know how overwhelming and noninclusive the fitness industry can feel, and I work hard every day to add some normality and realism to what fitness actually looks like.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Surviving a global pandemic with a business that ran solely online and survived multiple gym closures has been a huge accomplishment. I also recently relocated and, as a result, have taken my business completely online.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

It can feel really lonely working by yourself from home. It's so important to create routines for yourself and build relationships with other people in similar positions. There are some amazing business owners out there looking out for one another.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You'll never be 100% ready, so don't wait for that.
  2. Done is better than perfect.
  3. Never be afraid to admit you don't know something but that you'll find out and keep learning.
