Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emily Taylor, founder of Flow Wear by Emily Taylor Yoga, located in Portland, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I teach yoga, group, private and corporate, and host international yoga retreats. I also just recently soft-launched a new sustainable apparel line called Flow Wear. It’s apparel to flow through every aspect of your day. Multi-use, multi-functional. Less is more. Made from recycled water bottles and certified cotton from CA and made in the USA.

Tell us about yourself

I fell in love with yoga; it made me feel so good that I wanted to share it. Even though I was terrified of public speaking, I just knew it would be different with yoga. Since those first days, I’ve come to discover that I really love creating beautiful experiences. Whether it’s a single yoga class, a dream destination retreat, or clothes that inspire us to do and be our best, I love the curation of it all.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with the US Navy Seals, NBA players, and big corporations, but I would have to say my biggest accomplishment is helping everyday folks with everyday stressors nourish their nervous systems through the tools of yoga and mindfulness.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The unknown! All of the things you don’t know until you know. It definitely keeps me on my toes, and the excitement levels up!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Work with people you admire and who inspire you.
  2. Hire folks that are excellent at the things you aren’t.
  3. Be flexible. Goals and dreams shift; allow space for that unfolding.
