Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Emily Celis, Co-Founder of S.A.G.E. Holistic Health & Wellness Center, located in Tustin, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a holistic health and wellness center focused on serving the whole person through our services and education. We offer mental health therapy through a holistic lens and often consult with our client’s other holistic-minded professionals to create a treatment team approach. We also offer Reiki healing sessions and Reiki Certification and Training, Spiritual Coaching.

Tell us about yourself

Our story began when Joseph and I met due to a professional work arrangement- Joseph became my personal trainer. Our friendship blossomed over many discussions of how physical fitness and nutrition (Joseph’s Master’s focus) impacted mental health so much (My Master’s focus), and Our affinity for spiritual traditions brought the holistic approach full circle. Every day we are motivated by our core belief that life gets to be better when we attend to the four pillars of wellness- nutrition, exercise, mental health, and spirituality- in a way that uniquely works for each person.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as the co-founders of S.A.G.E. is the reach we have in our community in bringing professionals together to make holistic healing accessible to the public, in addition to the hundreds of clients we have personally been privileged to work with.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

With a busy family life with three young boys, we are constantly working hard on bringing balance to the time we spend as a family, as a couple, and working on ourselves individually, to live the life ourselves that we are so passionate about helping others live - it’s hard work…and SO worth it!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find yourself some Guides - don’t try to go it alone.
  2. Create realistic expectations but make them solid - quantify the goals, come up with due dates, run the numbers so you really know how long until you can be profitable (and get help from a professional if you’re not sure how to do this).
  3. Get comfortable being in the public eye - sharing on social media, etc. - people want to see who you are as the face of the company, so they can get behind what you are offering.
