Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ellen Goldman, Owner of EllenG Coaching, LLC, located in West Orange, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I created my business, EllenG Coaching, to help overextended business professionals and entrepreneurs who are worried about their health and happiness, and are either exhausted, burnt out, out of shape, overweight, or all of the above! Through my coaching programs and motivational talks, I show clients how to integrate health into their busy lifestyles with simple, small steps that lead to massive change, resulting in greater energy, focus, productivity, and happiness every day.

My passion is helping clients thrive, both professionally and personally. I am a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach, an ICF (International Coaching Federation) Professional Certified Coach, the author of Mastering the Inner Game of Weight Loss: An Easy-to-Follow Guide to Permanent Weight Loss Without Going on a Diet, and the creator of the online course, Mastering the Inner Game of Weight Loss: Your Six-Week RoadMAP to a Leaner, Healthier, Happier You!

Tell us about yourself

After twenty years as a Certified Personal Trainer, I felt something was missing. Although it was gratifying to help individuals adopt a more active lifestyle, many struggled to integrate healthy habits outside the gym. Stress levels remained high, a life-work balance was non-existent, and life satisfaction wasn't there.

Coaching addresses the psychology of behavioral change. That is what is needed for individuals to refine their daily habits and stick to better ones consistently. There is nothing more gratifying than watching business professionals and entrepreneurs not only succeed in their careers but succeed in their personal lives as well. Once we get self-care back on our daily to-do lists, we are healthier, happier, and more productive, and life is more fun!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

There have been many huge accomplishments, such as writing and publishing my book, being asked to present to large companies, becoming a mentor coach, and creating, implementing, and running an employee wellness program. However, my greatest accomplishment is when a client tells me that working with me has made a significant positive change in their life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Making decisions on a day-to-day basis about where to direct my time and energy is always challenging. As a business owner, I am the CEO--Chief Everything Officer!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Put self-care on the top of your daily to-do list. Do not sacrifice taking care of yourself for taking care of your business.
  2. Perfect a system for planning your weekly tasks and setting goals. Failure to plan is planning to fail. Recognize when it is time to outsource some of your responsibilities or contract experts to help you do what is not in your wheelhouse.
  3. Become crystal clear of your core values. Lead your business and your life in congruency with those values.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

There is absolutely no reason why you can't have a career and a life. Build a strong foundation of health and well-being, and you'll have the energy it takes to build the business of your dreams.
