Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and nutrition but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elizabeth Harris, Owner of Elizabeth Harris Nutrition and Wellness, located in Annapolis, MD, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help women stop dieting and start living with Intuitive Eating coaching, body image support, and gentle nutrition guidance. I don't offer yet another "lifestyle change" or diet in disguise. Rather, I show my clients how to really and truly drop out of dieting for a good while teaching them sustainable strategies to elevate and prioritize their authentic, mind-body health and wellbeing.

My clients learn to eat foods they love--guilt-free--without counting, tracking, or measuring anything. They get help building healthful habits they enjoy and actually WANT to stick with, and they get tools and support to heal their body image without chasing weight loss. It's empowering and authentically health-promoting when women learn to trust themselves and their food choices and to care for their bodies with consistent respect and kindness.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a dietitian and certified Intuitive Eating counselor. Depending on how you slice it, this is a second or third career for me. I've always been interested in nutrition and finally went back to school in mid-life to get a master's degree in Nutrition, Healthspan, and Longevity. I became an RDN so I could follow and share my passion for all things food and wellness related.

The brave, committed, and determined women I work with inspire me every single day. They are doing the hard work of opting out of diet culture, healing their relationships with food, and learning to celebrate the bodies they're in. In the toxic diet culture, we live in, learning to care for and respect the body you're in without chasing weight loss can feel downright revolutionary. Yet it's so incredibly meaningful, empowering, and life-changing. I'm humbled to be a part of and play a role in my clients' healing journeys.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is growing through the challenges of entrepreneurship. I'm thrilled to have built a robust private coaching client base and to be able to offer successful, small-group Intuitive Eating coaching programs. I also have a new course coming out soon, How to Raise Intuitive Eaters, that I'm really excited about!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being a solopreneur is really hard. There never seems to be enough time in the day to get everything done! Truthfully, the biggest challenge has probably been getting out of my own way: learning the ins and outs of entrepreneurship and running a business, learning how to put myself out there publicly even when it feels uncomfortable, and persisting even in the face of setbacks or challenges.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Network, network, network.
Challenge yourself to do things that make you uncomfortable. Get coaching and support to help you overcome your own limiting beliefs and see around your own blindspots.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
