Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bobby Fioritto, Founder of Elite Sports Performance, located in Mentor, OH, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Elite Sports Performance, we provide sports training and athletic development for athletes of all ages. Our main goal is to provide coaching programs that positively impact the kids that we work with - both on and off the field.

Tell us about yourself

Being involved with athletics my whole life, I developed a passion for sports performance and self-improvement. After I graduated college, I knew I wanted to continue in this field and work with kids to provide a structured program that allows them to develop both the physical and mental skills to be successful. The relationships that I form with my athletes motivate me daily to continue to provide the best possible program.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I started Elite Sports Performance in 2012, and to make it 10+ years has been a huge accomplishment. To think of how many kids we have been able to work with and help over that time has been awesome.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The most challenging aspect of being a business owner is the seasonality that goes along with my business type. Because it is challenging for kids to train with us year-round due to their busy sports schedules, we encounter a lot of ups and downs. When certain times of the year approach and we get a little bit slower, it can be challenging to deal with as a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be passionate about what you are doing. As a business owner (especially first starting up), you will be putting in many hours, so you better love what you are doing.
  2. Be consistent with your work and try not to get too emotional when things don't go as planned or slow down a bit. Just know that if you put your head down and keep working, things will work out.
  3. Learning to master systems is very important to scale and grow your business. Systems produce consistency and allow your business to become more efficient, allowing you to get more work done. This is especially important for business owners who wear multiple hats and have various roles in their business.
