Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dena Cronholm, Founder and Owner of Elevate Dance Center, located in Thornton, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am in the business of changing lives for the better through dance. We offer group dance instruction to children ages two and up.
Tell us about yourself
I have been teaching dance in some capacity since I was 13 years old. The life skills and discipline I grew up with through dance inspired me to teach. Although I love my industry, I have long thought there is a better way to do dance education, so in 2018 I decided to test my theory.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
As a brand-new business, we survived the pandemic. We have grown exponentially since, which proves our concept is working. The biggest accomplishment of all is the wonderful dancefam community we've created.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
There are so many tough decisions to make as a business owner, and as our dancefam grows, I know those decisions have an effect that ripples through our entire community. I have a lot of people's best interests to think about, and that's a big responsibility.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Do it right from the beginning. Never cut corners.
- Operate in your zone of genius and outsource the rest.
- Block time is how I get everything done. Don't let your email inbox define your day!
