A Farewell to Welfare - Elease Wiggins

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elease Wiggins, owner of ELEASE, LLC, located in Lodi, NJ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I own a personal and professional development company specializing in coaching, training, and education. My customers are mothers who do not want to comprise their dreams in the name of being a good mother. I also work with organizations, institutions, and agencies that support marginalized and disenfranchised populations.

Tell us about yourself

As the primary parent of two, I knew a typical 9-5 with overtime did not fit my lifestyle. So for seven years, I built a company that is Minority Women Business Enterprise certified in two states. To do this, my children and I were homeless and on public assistance. However, I never allowed my seeming "failures" to prevent me from building a company that supports people who are trying yet hurting.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is conducting a TEDx on how I turned poverty and pain into prosperity through perseverance.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is believing in the success of your business when there is no sign of activity. In the face of adversity, how do you continue to forge ahead with no proof of success?

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Not all money is good money. Don't overwhelm yourself for a bag. Peace is more important.
  2. There are consequences when you comprise. It might seem like a shortcut now, but the route will be longer in the end.
  3. File your business taxes every year. Even when your company takes a loss.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Surround yourself with people who know more than you and are all about you winning.
