Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Suzanne Shpall, Founder of Elder Flower, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Elder Flower is a family mushroom-based skincare and self-care products and practices devoted to the excavation and preservation of our consumers' natural beauty and well-being. Our target consumer is anyone with endocrine issues and those who are expecting or recent mothers.

Tell us about yourself

I am an experienced Creative Brand Strategist, Marketing Director, and Operations Lead with a demonstrated history in CPG, Beauty, Fashion, and Cannabis. I have spent the last decade building brands for the modern consumer. I have a deeply studied passion for plant medicine and am captivated by ancient alchemy and sustainability.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

While I'm proud of the work I've done throughout my career and happy to have launched many brands, this feels pretty significant. I've been working to make Elder Flower a reality for a few years. I am eternally grateful to my team and proud of what we've accomplished at launch. I am so excited to see Elder Flower grow.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trust in the vision. It's hard to see the future, and you never know if your concept, brand, or product will be successful. My goal in life is to add beauty and substance to this world. I believe in the power of nature to help us heal, grow and glow. With Elder Flower, my intention is to make beautiful skincare and self-care products that help people feel their best. There are no guarantees in life, and to see something succeed sometimes, you just have to step into the unknown.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a concept/product you believe in.
  2. Capital is king.
  3. Have a nimble team and achievable goals.
