Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Egbert Mulder, Founder of Circular Leadership, located in Amsterdam, NH, Netherlands.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We help leaders change the world for a better future for humanity. Our clients are leaders and their organizations, from SMEs to multinationals all around the world. We have developed a virtual reality leadership workshop based on the so-called Overview Effect, the main reason that many astronauts become environmental activists after their return to Earth.

Tell us about yourself

After working as a founder/executive in a consultancy for more than twenty years, I decided ten years ago I wanted to use my expertise to help other leaders to change the world. What motivates me is the feedback we get from participants in our workshops and masterclasses. Many of them report that it was a transformational experience that made them change the way they think about themselves and their relation to Planet Earth. The majority of our participants have afterward changed the mission, purpose, and strategy of their organization towards sustainable and regenerative goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Our biggest accomplishment as business owners is that we have been able, as a world first, to simulate the Overview Experience in a virtual reality program. Now leaders, students, young professionals, politicians, etc., don't have to climb aboard a rocket to experience this amazing phenomenon that is so important to our common future.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Many times you have to make important decisions while you do not have all the necessary information yet. So very often, it is not your head that gives you the right answers but your heart, instinct, or gut feeling. In the beginning, this is sometimes very hard since we have not been trained to make that kind of decision. But the more experience you get as a leader, the easier it is to rely on this deep knowledge inside you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Imagine a future world that you would like to live in.
  2. Define the contribution that you and your organization will have in this world.
  3. Recharge frequently in silence or nature and create powerful alliances with people and organizations that support your mission.
