What's your business, and who are your customers?

Tell us about yourself
I pursued Master in Economics from Delhi School of Economics (DSE), which is one of the leading and competitive institutes in the field of Economics, and hence, the pressure was equally immense. Even though we had world-class professors and excellent resources available, I could still feel the need for some extra personalized support, especially in the modules I was weak at. At that time, there was hardly anyone available in the market who could provide efficient one-one support to students studying such difficult courses. Therefore, there was a need to bridge this gap for students. From my experience, irrespective of how excellent the university is, some students can definitely utilize personalized support to ace the curriculum. I wanted to step in with a vision to innovate the education system for students like me. I wanted to act as a liaison between the universities and their students. And this motivated me to provide professional support to each student at world-class universities who experience competitiveness by pursuing difficult courses in a crunched timeline. It was an upcoming opportunity to stretch my way to personalized online teaching.
To see students and their parents appreciating us for our work motivates me every day to create a team of the best Economics tutors in the entire world. When you make an impact on a student's life, it makes you realize that your hard work has paid off.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I started Eduspred in 2016, and for the first year, I was mostly teaching for little to no fees to complete the market research and choose my niche within Economics. It was only after 17 months when we got our first well-paid offer from a student at Columbia University. After that, there was no turning back, and we now have unstoppable offers. Since then, we have catered to students from 90+ universities across UK, US, Netherlands, Italy, and India. Because of the value we have delivered to our students over time, around 30% of our customers come via referral now.
Our content is one of our biggest accomplishments as well. We don't even spend a penny on marketing because our content speaks. We spend a lot of time structuring our content, and it goes through multiple rounds of quality checks before we publish it online. We have varied resources on different platforms in the form of videos, books & articles.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Managing time and selecting the right people to work with. Streamlining the processes and delivering the best-quality results is time-consuming. One has to manage so many tasks, especially during the initial phase, that work can easily take a toll on your health. At the same time, forming the right team to work with doesn't come easy. Working with people who are as passionate about the work as you are is a blessing. However, one may need a lot of time to find people with the same work ethic and dedication.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Care about the cause – Choose a business that you love and are passionate about. I started this business because I cared about the education system and could relate to it. If you cannot mentally picture yourself still innovating and working on your business idea in a few years, you'll probably run out of steam before you make it to the success you dreamt of.
- Delegate whatever you can – Don't try to do everything on your own. Even if a task takes you 15 minutes a day and you have to do this on a repetitive basis (daily, weekly, etc.), teach the process and delegate it to someone else, if possible. Teaching the process to someone may take more time initially; however, this will definitely pay back in the long run. Save your energy and time so that you can focus on higher-value activities.
- Keep innovating – Don't turn blind when your business starts doing great. Stay updated on the recent market trends, keep analyzing your competitors from time to time and interact with your customers every now and then to take their feedback on how you can improve further. Steady innovation is a must, so do what you do, but do it better every year.
