Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Terrica Smith, Founder of Eden & Vine, LLC., located in Franklin, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Eden & Vine is a garden-themed lifestyle magazine created to empower and equip every woman to cultivate lives rich with beauty, in all its forms, deeply rooted in faith.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a wife and mom of two littles who delighted in raising them in the garden on a stunning hillside just outside of Nashville, TN. I'm also a writer, speaker, and storyteller who loves championing other women with genuine purpose. Our work as a team is centered on sharing stories, learning together, growing together, and inspiring others to cultivate lives that radiate the goodness of God. It's beautiful, life-giving work--we adore it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Hearing the countless stories and testimonies of readers who find genuine hope, inspiration, healing, and purpose in the pages of Eden & Vine. It brings me to humble tears daily. I still cannot believe I get to do this!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Wearing the "hats" of at least a dozen people! As a small team, we all have multiple roles, each of us at least half a dozen titles. We don't wear them all, but we certainly do the work! At the same time, there's immense gratitude in how God enables us to do SO MUCH as such a small team. It's extraordinary.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just start! Do your research and prep work, of course, but the hardest part is that first step. There is no "right" time. Just begin.
  2. Surround yourself with brilliant people who are smarter than you. I promise you won't regret it. A killer team of people is sure to equate to success. You don't need to be the smartest, brightest person on the team to lead well. Quite the opposite, you simply need to be able to see and mine the gold in others.
  3. Move forward with humility and trust God. He never leads us astray. Truly.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

It takes incredible courage to start a business. Fear always shows up in some form or another. One of my favorite quotes is by Lauren Schwaiger, "What if I fall? Oh, but my darling, what if you fly?"

Words to live by. Or said in a slightly different manner by poet Mary Oliver, "What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" Isn't it amazing how a few simple words strung together can provoke and even change a person's life? Story-telling and words are my absolute obsession...
