Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Erin Borgfjord, founder and CEO of Easy Peasy Food Corp., located in Toronto, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

You've never made pancakes like this. Fluffy and rich buttermilk pancakes with no measuring, mixing, and mess. Just add water to the bottle, shake and cook. We pack 30 grams of protein into each bottle to power up your day. We make our mix from scratch using the same wholesome ingredients that you use at home. Then we add a scoop of plant-based protein to keep you going strong all day long. Our customers all have one thing in common - they want delicious food that is nutritious and easy to prepare for themselves and their families.

Tell us about yourself

I love to cook, and I always tweak recipes to make them better for my family and me. I reduce the sugar and salt, add protein, and use plant-based ingredients. At Easy Peasy Foods, we provide our customers with the same delicious and nutritious foods that we eat in our homes. We power our food with plant-based protein from peas, sustainably grown here in Canada.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Launching my business during COVID with both my young kids at home in virtual school has been my most challenging and most rewarding accomplishment. I loved that they saw the day-to-day of what it takes to launch a business. It was such a valuable experience for them to have at a young age. It has also shown me how much I need healthy and quick meals to prepare in my own life. Easy Peasy Pancakes are a breakfast staple in our house.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of owning a business is also the most fun - wearing all the hats. I switch throughout the day between recipe development, building community, sourcing suppliers, and more. I love it all!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start now.
  2. Make a truly excellent product or service.
  3. Find meaning in your work.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am grateful for the support we receive from our community, and I am constantly looking for ways to give back. We partner with local schools, donate to charities and food banks, and support other small businesses. If you would like to collaborate with us, please reach out!
