Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Veela Jeweline, Founder of Earth Music Healing Arts LLC., located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Earth Music Healing Arts is a holistic healing arts practice specializing in Reiki. Inspired by ancestral wisdom, earth-based traditions, trauma-informed somatics, & shamanic spirituality. I work with clients seeking comfort, healing, harmony, & empowerment. Reiki energy has no contraindications, & can be given safely to people & animals with many benefits. Reiki can be supportive of people recovering from injuries, surgeries, or mental health challenges. It is increasingly being used in hospitals to support pain reduction & quality of life for patients with terminal illnesses. It can sometimes deepen consciousness & invite spiritual awakening. Most frequently, it's used for stress reduction, pain relief, & sleep support. With a list of benefits like this, the people (& animals!) I serve ranges from all backgrounds, stages, & walks of life.

Tell us about yourself

I fell in love with Reiki immediately. I was so intrigued by the warm meltiness & waves of tingles I experienced after years of feeling numb & foreign to my own body. The practice of Reiki felt very mysterious, & even sacred to me. I sought as much training as I could & practiced every day. My father began dying soon after I began this journey & I was so grateful to have something comforting to offer him. It was my lifeline at that time- an act of compassion that spoke love when words were unavailable or inadequate. My understanding of Reiki's power to nourish the soul expanded greatly during his transition & I knew I wanted to offer this peace, comfort, & caring to others. That's how Earth Music Healing Arts was born! I know I'm here to help people heal, liberate, & empower themselves. Offering Reiki is one small way I can hold space for powerful experiences like that.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly, the process was the hardest between conceiving the idea of my business & actually putting up a shingle & doing it. So I would say I am most proud of the genesis of it all because it was hard won.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Being solely responsible for everything, every decision, every hiccup, every mistake, it's up to you to navigate & ultimately master- or else. No pressure, right? 😅

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Create a network as best you can. Running a business in isolation can be brutal.
  2. Know your limitations & don't be afraid to outsource. (Perhaps you can do a work exchange with someone & start building up that network!)
  3. Know your boundaries around time & money, & stick to them. It will help reinforce your value as a professional & keep you grounded.
