What's your business, and who are your customers?
I own a performance-based physical therapy practice. I work with active athletes and adults and have a niche in Ice Hockey.
Tell us about yourself
Years ago, I fell down an elevator shaft while working as a carpenter and broke my back, pelvis, and wrist. I went through extensive physical therapy, which gave me my life back. I decided that is what I need to do for others. I'm driven by my patients and seeing them get back to doing what they love.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say that I built a successful business while having a newborn and during a pandemic. I feel confident that if my business could survive that, it's a pretty solid business.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Staying on track and not getting caught up in the newest and latest thing. "Shiny Object Syndrome."
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Start now; there is no time like the present. Take a risk on yourself because no one else will. Keep showing up. There is a quote in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that says a black belt is just a white belt that keeps showing up. Business is exactly like that. Also, learn to become comfortable being uncomfortable. As soon as things get comfortable, that's when it's time to worry.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Healthcare is fantastic because there is no limit to the amount of knowledge you can acquire. In the past, I've become bored when things become stagnant, or I feel like I learned everything about that particular job. If you're not growing anywhere, you're not going anywhere.
