What's your business, and who are your customers?

First, find your favorite scents. With over 80 scents to choose from, you are sure to find something you love. Don't worry; you won't be on your own; you will get a clipboard to help you keep track of your favorites, and one of our scent consultants will be there to help.

Next, it is time to pick your candle vessel. We have a large selection of vessels in all different shapes and sizes. You can also choose to make your lotion, room spray, diffusers, or wax tarts!

Now grab a seat at the bar, and let's get pouring! This is where you pick from your list of favorites to create your very own Aromatic Experience. Once you have picked your scent combination, you will be able to pour and mix your candle with the help of the Dundee Candle Co. scent consultants.

Once your candle is poured, it will need to sit for 90 minutes before you can take it home. The Dundee neighborhood offers several dining and shopping options while you wait. If you need a recommendation, just ask one of our scent consultants! You can also come back a different day to pick up your candle.

Tell us about yourself

I opened Dundee Candle Co because of my love of small businesses. I wanted to do something that would be fun. So I have created an Aromatic Experience for all ages to enjoy. I love seeing the smiles on customers' faces when they smell that fragrance that triggers a memory. I am motivated by my customers and the Dundee Community. I have a business in a fantastic and supportive neighborhood.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Opening a new business during COVID and being able to stay open. We totally took a leap of faith to open our business.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Hiring and keeping good employees. In a customer service-oriented business, I must have good employees. I want every customer to feel welcome and have that great Aromatic Experience. Good employees are a key to having happy customers.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My first tip would be to ensure that you have a great support system. Opening and running a business isn't easy, and you will need a support team. Make sure you know your market. You can't just open a business anywhere. You need to know that you have picked a location that is good for you, your business, and your customers.

Know all of the costs that go into opening a business. Taxes, insurance, employee requirements. Having an attorney and an accountant, especially an accountant, has a wealth of knowledge. Having a business is fun, but many aspects require more than just a fun attitude.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Be positive. Make sure and get to know other businesses in your area. They can help support you and drive business to you. If there is a merchants association where your business is located, join!
