What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business makes Boozy Cakes and treats. Our typical customers are middle-aged adults who would visit Craft Breweries or who would otherwise enjoy a sweet boozy treat.
Tell us about yourself
This business was a complete accident. During the holiday season of 2020, I had my grandmother's rum cake recipe and made a couple. They turned out well, so I offered some to friends on social media. I ended up selling 13, and it was then that I realized I might be onto something. What motivates me to continue is seeing the faces of satisfied customers after that first bite of boozy cake.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
In 2022, after establishing a good customer base and seeing that the business was viable, I filed for my LLC, making the business officially legitimate.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Finding the balance of time between family, work, business, and social events.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Very few business ideas are especially unique. I was given this advice by my business mentor. If you think you have a viable business, then great. Instead of building, look for a similar business that you can buy. It is not an easy undertaking, but neither is building. For far less of a financial investment, an existing business can be acquired. You can then use that business to develop your product or service.
