What's your business, and who are your customers?

Drift Simply Natural is a boutique manufacturer in the heart of the Foothills. Passionate about creating all-natural products for the conscious consumer. It is our mission to use fresh, simple, all-natural ingredients coupled with highly recyclable or compostable packaging to reduce our carbon footprint. We believe that taking time for yourself should be a restorative and beneficial experience which is why we use only the highest quality, sustainable, secured, plant-based ingredients.

Tell us about yourself

As a stay-at-home mom of two young girls, I was feeling a bit at a loss of my identity, giving every ounce of myself to motherhood. I found I was looking for myself, time, qualities that I believed in myself. I had recently watched a documentary on bath rituals and how effective bathing is for the mind, body, and spirit. Realizing I've completely ignored my basic self-care needs, I armed myself with a grocery list and the intention of a luxurious hour to myself. I found everything I needed at a local Natural Health Food store. What started as a need for self-care has transformed into a passion for creating pure, wholesome, clean products. Fast forward to today, my goal is to try and create a cleaner future by designing natural solutions for everyday products. To help nurture your connection to mother nature, wellness, self-care & self-love.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Though I've had some really exciting partnerships, my biggest sense of accomplishment comes from customer feedback. When I get messages from those who've benefited from carving time out for themselves or those suffering from illness, pain, and other chronic ailments telling me how much of a difference my products have made in their life, I have such a profound sense of joy (it sometimes brings me to tears). It's so rewarding and truly fulfilling.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think adapting to changing trends and technology would be one of the hardest areas for me. Just when you've got one thing figured out, you need to pivot and start fresh to stay current that and finding a good work/life balance is a constant struggle. The demands of running a business, mixed with the responsibilities of being a mom and running a household, can be overwhelming at times.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust in the process and give yourself grace. Even if things aren't moving as quickly as you'd hoped, consistency is key. It's hard not to look at someone else's journey and compare it to yours, but each business is different, and what you have to offer is unique in its own way. The world needs your talents; try not to measure your success against someone else's.
  2. Surround yourself with supportive family/friends & mentors. When times are hard, you can look to people who will help you learn, problem solve and generally lift you up when you're experiencing self-doubt. You learn how resilient you are and that you can rise to challenges you didn't think you were capable of but having great people in your corner is key to staying positive and pushing forward.
  3. Step outside of your comfort zone and take risks. It's incredible how much personal growth happens when you do the things you're afraid of. You gain powerful confidence and get to know yourself on a new level. Real growth never happens in comfort zones.
