Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with David Tracy, Principal CEO of Dreamland Organics, located in Salem, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our business is craft, organic CBD products with a focus on premium CBD flowers. We grow all of our hemp on our farm and market and sell it online on our website. Our customers range from ex-cannabis smokers who still want to smoke but don't want to get high to athletes, executives, or stay-at-home moms who seek relief from stress and everyday aches and pains.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a cannabis and hemp advocate for many years and moved from NYC to Oregon to build a brand centered on quality products, top-notch customer service, and an informed, healthy lifestyle. Before heading out west, I was a professional recording artist and had experience in the service industry at the managerial level. Cannabis was always a passion, so choosing to create a brand in that niche was a natural choice.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Across all review platforms, including Trust Pilot, Google, Facebook, etc., we have garnered all 5-star reviews without exception. Customer satisfaction is our prime focus, so being able to satisfy all of our customer's diverse needs, has been our most treasured trophy.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The thing I have personally struggled with the most is time allocation, organization, and task delegation. Without an implemented, organized strategy, days turn into months really quickly.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you love the path you are about to embark on. So even before starting the business, try it out for a month or so and see if it's really what you want to do. Without passion, you won't make it long-term.
  2. Don't seek perfection; seek to improve consistently. Mistakes will be numerous, and nothing will ever be perfect. Just keep getting better day by day and reflect each quarter to make sure you are honoring your vision.
  3. Don't compare yourself to your competition. It will take all the fun of the process and inhibit your authenticity.
