Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rebecca Annastas, Owner of Dream Events & Catering, located in Nashville, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are Dream Events & Catering, a full-service event company that provides everything from sensational cuisine and entertainment to seamless planning and design for gatherings of two – 10,000. We create memories and experiences that will last a lifetime by cultivating a supportive & trusting environment because we can, and it's our DREAM!!

Tell us about yourself

I have been in this industry for over 20 years, and it still continues to thrill me. I started in restaurants and quickly grew to more and more. My inspiration comes from my team and the satisfaction we all get from an event coming together in the best way possible. The experiences we create for others are truly rewarding for us. It feeds our soul while it provides others with lifelong memories. We are grateful and never take our opportunities for granted. That is what keeps us motivated and truly happy!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

After over 20 years in hospitality, surviving 2020 was really our best accomplishment. The resilience and determination of our team were inspirational. We came back with a different motivation and appreciation for what we have and what we get to do day in and day out.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Balancing the business needs with the team needs. What the market demands is not what is always best for the team and vice versa, but our team has to be our priority in order to take care of our clients. It is hard to love each team member while sometimes reprimanding or pushing them beyond their comfort to grow, but that is our responsibility to our team and community.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Surround yourself with people smarter than you.
  2. Surround yourself and hire people who do things you don't like or are not good at.
  3. Get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I am simply so lucky to have found my passion inside a business that is so rewarding. We throw parties for a living. We work incredibly hard, but we get intense satisfaction.
