Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Roseann Capanna-Hodge, Award-winning Children’s Mental Health Expert located in Ridgefield, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

At Dr. Roseann, LLC and The Global Institute of Children's Mental Health, our mission is to change the way we view and treat mental health, showing people it's gonna be okay with science-backed tools that improve well-being. We offer services and products that show parents how to calm their brains and create happy families.

With mental health and neurodevelopmental issues amongst children and teens dramatically on the rise, kids and families need effective, safe, and natural ways to regulate the brain and behavior. Our products and services give parents the resources they need to help their children regulate and create lasting brain and behavior change.

Tell us about yourself

At an early age, I knew it was my calling to support the mental health of others. It wasn't until I started working with kids that I discovered just how much I loved helping children and families. As a mental health provider, knowing that I am making a difference in the world gives me purpose and propels me to reach even more families. I know that I am changing lives by teaching parents about natural solutions that create lasting change.

I founded The Global Institute of Children's Mental Health and Dr. Roseann, LLC after seeing so many parents desperately searching for solutions but only to face treatment failure after treatment failure. With the standard of mental health care only being a guessing game of diagnosis and treatments, I knew there had to be another way.

I am often viewed as a mental health trailblazer because I have been on a mission to change the way we view and treat mental health for three decades. I show parents, educators, and organizations that “it's gonna be okay” with science-backed tools that improve well-being. It is clear that we are making mental wellness way too hard, and parents and employers just need the science and steps in order to calm the brain so one can be more focused, less stressed, and complete tasks. I teach individuals how to calm the brain in order to have a happy family, better relationships, and be more productive by giving them the keys to unlock the brain's potential.

With my trademarked method, BrainBehaviorReset™, I have helped thousands address the most challenging conditions children and individuals face today, such as ADHD, executive functioning dysfunction, anxiety, OCD, mood, Lyme, and PANS/PANDAS using science-backed methods. Science shows us exactly how to calm a dysregulated, unfocused brain, and I give parents and employees easy techniques to do just that.

I do so much media and write books for both parents and professionals to give them tools that cultivate change. In my most recent book, It's Gonna be OK!™ (www.itsgonnabeok.com), I outline the research and steps that parents need to take to improve mental health and reduce symptoms. Most just aren’t aware of how simple tools such as breathwork, ways to improve sleep, dietary changes, etc., can make such a difference in brain and mental health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Making an impact on family and children's mental health is my greatest accomplishment as an entrepreneur. So many kids and families are suffering under the weight of tremendous stress and pressure, and I am able to help families by teaching them about science-backed natural solutions that calm the brain.

Whether someone works with us in our one-to-one BrainBehaviorReset™program, purchases our CALM PEMF™ mobile device, or buys our Multi-Mag Brain™ Formula, we give parents science-backed and natural ways to calm the brain that are also safe and effective. With family stress at an all-time high, kids and families need methods that work quickly without the dangerous side effects that are all too common (and accepted) from psychiatric and ADHD medications.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I am super passionate about our mission, and we have so many initiatives coming in 2023, including our Its Gonna Be OK with Dr. Roseann Podcast. That means I am also a very busy working mother.

One of the hardest things that come with being an entrepreneur is maintaining a work-life balance. When you own a business, there aren't regular hours, and that can bleed into time with your family. I work hard to be very conscious about the choices I make, and I only do things I love.

It is important to take time every day to breathe and balance the nervous system and, of course, have fun too! Just like at home, having fun is so important, and everyone on my team has a great sense of humor, and we laugh so much.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

As a second-generation entrepreneur, I love having the ability to make an impact in a totally authentic way that is congruent with who I am. The best advice I have for starting, running, and growing a business is to start with something you love and be very strategic.

Building connections, having conversations, and giving customers what they want are paramount in growing your business. Don’t create offers that you think your customers want; instead, ask them what they want and create it. You can test an idea through market research or asking on social media before you waste time and money.

Here are other tips for building a successful business:

  1. Lay out a three-year, one-year, six-month, and 90-day growth plan.
  2. Learn digital marketing strategies.
  3. Show me the data! Use data to make business decisions instead of guessing.
